With the successful completion of the Capital Campaign, it has become apparent that we must establish an Annual Fund. As Lynn Freeman, president of the Board of Directors has said, “We cannot maintain our facility, fulfill our educational mission or protect and maintain trails without regular annual support.”
Please consider a donation in support of GMHA!
What is an annual fund? Unlike a capital campaign, which is launched periodically by nonprofit entities to finance large one-time capital projects and renovation requirements, an annual fund exists to support the annual ongoing operational costs of running an organization. It is an annual appeal for money that is used to help fill the gap between income from fees and the operating costs.
It is a vital part of budget balancing for most nonprofit entities and usually covers a meaningful portion of a nonprofit’s expenses.
They are the annual expenses incurred to run GHMA that include trail maintenance, mowing, dragging the rings, vehicle maintenance, salaries for all the hard-working GMHA employees, cost of hay, shavings, member communications, garbage removal and insurance, plus the costs of running all the educational clinics, 4-H camps and Junior Horsemanship Clinics, and everything else that GMHA holds throughout the year. This just scratches the surface; there are many more costs.
Unfortunately, only about 5% of GMHA’s members have given to the Annual Fund this year. We’d like to see the participation be much higher; no gift is too small. Janet Mayberry, GMHA treasurer, says, “The point of an annual fund is to have as many members participate as possible. They should think of us the same way they do any worthy, philanthropic organization that might include their alma mater, public radio station, a museum, or wildlife conservation fund.”
We need your participation in the GMHA Annual Fund to help keep this amazing place fiscally sound. Please consider giving a gift to ensure we are here for 80+ more years.
