Directions to GMHA

Finding your way here.

Visitor Information

Spectators are welcomed to all of our events and activities. Unless otherwise noted, there is no charge for spectating. Our snack bar and restrooms are open during major events, the barns are open for viewing horses up close, and there is lots of space for picnicking.

Please be aware that parking on the GMHA grounds is very limited. We ask for your cooperation during our events by parking only in areas to which you are directed.

*** Planning to follow your usual route to GMHA? Check the Vermont Travel Information Service before you leave- MANY state roads are closed due to the flooding caused by Irene.

NEW!  Find us on Google Maps!

Please note: We don't provide a physical address because it is not compatible with most GPS systems. *** GPS systems and Vermont don't mix! If you want to use your GPS to navigate to GMHA, please use the town of South Woodstock, noting that we are just half a mile south of "downtown" on Rt. 106. *** We strongly advise you to stay on state highways while traveling- GPS systems often direct you onto dirt roads, snowmobile trails, ect... please use your common sense when traveling to GMHA! Please see our directions below.

Driving Directions:

From Eastern New England:

Post-Hurricane Irene Update: This route is passable, but some sections of Rt. 4 and Rt. 106 may be one lane.

Take I-89 North to White River Junction, VT. (Cross the river from New Hampshire into Vermont and pass the exits for Rt. I-91.) Take Exit 1 - Quechee/Woodstock to Rt. 4 West. Stay on Rt. 4 into Woodstock. When you get into Woodstock, watch for signs for Rt. 106 South. You will make a left to go around the Green and then make your first right onto Rt. 106 South. (Between the white Woodstock Inn and a brick building.) Go approximately six miles into the town of South Woodstock. The road makes two sharp curves, then you will see a large white barn (GMHA's Upwey Barn). There will be brown shed row barns and the GMHA office. The entrance is by the GMHA sign.

From Southern New England:

Post-Hurricane Irene Update!

Take I-91 to Exit 8. You will make a left off the exit ramp to Rt. 131 West. At the blinking light at Downers Four Corners, take a right onto Rt. 106 north. Travel may be one lane south of the Reading village. After approx. 12 miles, you will see GMHA on your right hand side. The GMHA entrance is on the right, after two brown shed row barns.

From Albany, New York:

Post-Hurricane Irene Update! Prepare for adventure...

Take New York Route 9 from Troy, NY into Vermont. Follow Rt. 279 to Rt. 7 north towards Manchester, VT.  From there.... good luck!  MANY state highways are closed due to damage from Irene- please check the Vermont Travel Information Service for current updates or call the GMHA office.
