Major Improvements

GMHA completed its 2.5 million dollar Capital Campaign in the fall of 2008. Construction on all projects is now complete!

GMHA Upwey RingNew Upwey Ring: A new all-weather surface has been installed, which is large enough to accommodate multiple dressage rings, a large driving arena, or a full size jump course. This will allow us to provide safe footing during all conditions, and allow increased scheduling flexibility. The footing around the new ring has also been improved for use by cross country and steeplechase courses.

Renovations of Barns A, B, C, and D: The Barns have been completely renovated! Stalls now measure 10'x10'. New rubber mats have been installed in all stalls. The old doors have been replaced by sliding doors with grates that can be opened or closed. New hitching rails have been installed along both sides of all barns.

New Maintenance Building: Our new maintenance building has been added on to the back of the Youth Center. It is now two floors, with multiple entrances for equipment storage and repair. Its construction allows for the demolition of the old maintenance building to make way for the all purpose grass area.

New bathroom Facilities: An addition was made to the rear of the existing youth center allowing us to build new bathrooms that replace the existing bathroom facilities.

Youth Center Upgrades: As part of the bathroom addition project, the existing building was renovated; improvements were made to the lighting, ceiling, flooring and paint.

Track improvements at Birch Hill Farm: A new track was built for use by our cross-country and marathon competitors. This involved the installation of new subsurface materials and improved drainage. These improvements will provide for a safe and solid course to gallop, jump or drive through the Birch Hill Farm fields. We are grateful to Birch Hill Farm for their continued support.

Cross Country Course Improvements: We have constructed a new bank jump in the far field, near the water complex. The jump has three faces of varying heights, and a wide ramp. We hope to add a second bank to this complex in the future.

Construction of E Barn: GMHA has constructed another shedrow barn to account for the stalls lost in the renovation. E Barn is located on the site of the old maintenace shop, between the Upwey Indoor and the brook.

Renovation of the Upwey Barn: The interior of the barn has been completely refurbished, and a stall has been added. The exterior of the barn was fully renovated. The Upwey Indoor, attached to the barn, now has rubber mats on the ground for the convenience of those stabled in our temporary stalls.

Multi-Purpose Grass Area: The area between the main office and the Upwey Barn (formerly the main parking area and Side Upwey field) has been totally regraded to create one continous flat area. The driveway has been rerouted to circle this area, providing a clear entrace and exit. This area will be used for many purposes, including extra parking, warm-up for large events, riding, and driving.

Roger Maher Visitors Center: The new Visitors Center is located in the front section of the Upwey Barn. This new space will house and display all of GMHA's historical documents, photos, and publications. The Visitors Center is open by appointment only; please contact the office.

Spectator Seating: New terraced spectator seating has been added on the hillside behind the White Ring.
